Hi, I'm trying to find out more about my grandmother. She was Phyllis Houlden (pretty sure it has the 'u'), born about 1910 in Leeds (I think), and married George William Boleyn of O'Kains Bay, Banks Peninsular, New Zealand.

I was born on 7/3/1970 and I am the son of Fred Houlden (born 6/11/1921). My grandad was John William Houlden who was killed by a plane crashing onto the farm buildings at Oaklands Farm, New York, Lincolnshire in 1945.

I'm the spouse of Ken Houlden. His grandfather was Harry White Houlden born 28-Nov-1886 in Reston? Lincolnshire England. He married Mabel Eveline Tilling 14-May-1963 in Terrace, British Columbia Canada.

Their son was James and he married Isabella Jefferson. These two rabbits had 9 kids born in Barmby-on-the-Moor. I have recently started researching my family tree and have found a tree branch going up from my Grandmother Ruby who was the daughter of Sarah Ann Houlden born 1890 in Holborn, London. Their father was Thomas Houlden born 1816 in a place we think is either Toft or Upper Toft. Sadly the writing on the 1841 census is really hard to decipher and we can find no helpful names on the map to give us a clue. His wife was either Dinah, Dianah or Diarah and was also born in Bicker in 1811. It is at this point that the trail has gone cold and I think I may have to visit the area to find out some more information. I would appreciate it if you would post my info in the hope that someone may be able to help.

My Grandfather Harry White Houlden was born in Lincolnshire England on Nov. 28 1886. He was the 4th child in a family of 6. Sally Houlden who married Will Trimmingham Fredrick Houlden, who I believe was a member of the Salvation Army, Patricia, Wilfred and Sydney. I know his father had a brick yard (which was on the map when my Uncle went to England many years later). His father died when he was 7 yrs old (1893) and his mother re-married a man named Stevenson who continued to operate the Houlden family brick yard. My grandfather immigrated to Canada in 1910 and was followed later by his youngest brother Sydney. My grandfather returned to England when the 1st world war broke out taking with him his wife (also an English immigrant) and their young daughter Doris, (my mother), after joining the Canadian Expeditionary Forces as a member of the Cameron Highlanders. Sydney made his home in Ontario and has family living in that area. My grandfather lived in Winnipeg but after returning from the war moved the family to Terrace BC where he lived until his death in 1963. I would love to hear from anyone that might be related or know of any members of my Houlden family that still live in England or if they immigrated, where they may have gone to. I have traced my ancestors back to James Holden (Oct 1784 - 1854) born near or in Stowlangtoft, Suffolk. His parents were John Holden and Eales Mager. He seems to have had 5 siblings: John Holden b 1777, William b 1781, Mikle b 1782, Esther b 1786, Christopher b 1788. There are baptism records in the Ipswich Records Office.
James moved to Bristol c.1809 where he changed his name to Houlden and married Sarah Bowen (1799-c.1836) and had at least 5 children. Four of these, William Henry (1813-1862), Charlotte (1815- ), James(1820-1874) and Sarah (1822-1890) are mentioned in his will written in 1848. His probate was finally awarded to his son James on 10 July 1874 as both the original executors had died.

My grandmother sent this poem to my father written in the 1920's for Arthur Houlden, Shoemaker and sexton at St Paul's church Over Tabley. The house and shop were next to the church and that was where my father was born. They are now combined into a residential property.

My great grandfather was William Houlden born at New Bollingbroke, Lincolnshire, September 1823 and died at Heckington, Nr Sleaford Lincolnshire 15th April 1901. William was a fishmonger. He married Esther Johnson, born 1827 at Glinton Northamptonshire. They had 10 children including my grandfather Frederick. Interested in George Houlden from Tumbywoodside, born 1801, married Elizabeth Shaw 1835. He lived with his six children near Mareham-LeFen until about 1860.
